What is the Animatrix

What is the Animatrix? Well it looks pretty sweet thats for sure. Straight to video 9 animated movies telling the story of how the robots took over the world in the Matrix. The preview trailer box on the left shows short clips of all of them. Some look like older classic anime, some look like newer 3D rendered anime. One in particular looks as good as Final Fantasy. And definitely download part one on the right. Well worth the 140 meg download. And one word of warning, this shouldn't be watched by young kids. They really should make the small dark text at the bottom a little more prominent. Definitely not suitable for all ages. I was a little suprised, when I first heard about this I thought it was meant for kids. That was until I watched part 1 with a woman getting her clothes ripped off and beat up till her flesh falls off of her robotic body. Sweet. :)

Robot Club and Grille

There's a restaurant in Pittsburgh, PA called the Robot Club and Grille. Very sweet. It's basically a restaurant built around a lexan Battle Bots arena. They have a smaller arena where you can rent a house bot to fight with. Free classes on building your own bot and sell lots of bot parts. Very cool.

Space Shuttle Columbia Breaks Up Over Texas

Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of earth And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings; Sunward I've climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth Of sun-split clouds and done a hundred things You have not dreamed of - wheeled and soared and swung High in the sunlit silence. Hov'ring there, I've chased the shouting wind along, and flung My eager craft through footless halls of air. Up, up, up the long, delirious burning blue I've topped the wind-swept heights with easy grace Where never Lark, or even Eagle flew - And while with silent lifting mind, I've trod The high untrespassed sanctity of space, Put out my hand and touched the face of God.

It's a very sad day. I fear I may have witnessed the end of manned spaceflight in my lifetime. Expecially considering the state of affairs on earth these days. Son of Bush has wars to fight and taxes to rebate.

Search Friendly URLs in Movable Type

Movable Type really is a sweet system. I found information on making it save articles to human readable urls (a bunch of other tips on that site that I'll be playing with soon) and someone wrote a little perl script to automatically redirect the old urls to the new ones. Very nice indeed.

Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers Review

Jeffrey Overstreet's review of The Lord of the Rings - The Two Towers. I was going to post my feelings on the movie, until I read this guy's review. It's nearly word for word the way I feel and touches on every point I had to make. :)

More likely to "shoot" African-Americans?

Video Games Tech used as Research Tool

It seems to me that the test they linked to itself is biased. (Even though it doesn't appear to be the same test that is mentioned in the NYTimes article) When it was just deciding between color, then between weapons, then between blacks with weapons I had a nearly perfect score, but then by the time I got to the last series I got confused. I wasn't confused because I had to seperate blacks from weapons, I got confused because my mind was already trained by the test. I bet everyone gets the most wrong in the 4th series. And the test automagically assumes you're biased.

The fact that it's created by "Fight and promote tolerance: Tolerance.org" is fishy. I'd rather see a similar test created by an organization that doesn't have a vested interest in trying to prove that most people are intolerant... how else will they get funded? :) It's like a Microsoft sponsored study to prove that Linux has a higher TCO.

US Hate Crimes Against Muslims Soared in 2001

Posted by Tony Buser Tue, 26 Nov 2002 18:48:22 GMT

"The FBI says hate crimes against people who appear to be Muslim rose by more than 1,500 percent last year." ... In other news, US hate crimes against Americans soared on September 11th, 2001. Funny the article mentions that the number of hate crimes against Muslims (481) was still lower then the number against African Americans (2,900), Homosexuals (1,400), and Jews (1,000)... there were even twice as many against Whites (900... does that include Homosexuals and Jews?). I'm feeling bitter today.

"A state in northern Nigeria has issued a death sentence against the author of an article that sparked rioting over the Miss World beauty contest." 200 dead, a thousand injured in a riot caused by a newpaper article saying Mohammed would like to have Miss World as a wife, author is sentenced to death... say what?!
