I've been neglecting this blog. Main reason? I've turned into a farmer. srlsy :)

MyFolia.com is an excellent website, btw. Highly recommended. Excuse me, I have to go turn my compost pile.

Just a test 3

Just testing the new version of Typo. I hadn't upgraded in way too long. Haven't been giving this blog much love lately either...

World of Where-the-heck-did-he-go? 2

Wow, it's been 3 months since I've posted anything here. I'm suprised to see that I actually got 2 people subscribe to my feedburner feed. Where have I been? Well, for one I've been occupied with a Ruby on Rails project that I'm really excited about. That and any remaining time I have left has been destroyed by this.

Oh the Humanity 5

You may notice things have sure changed around here. Last night, the harddrive on this server died a horrible burning death. (fsck failed half way through and everything was completely lost) Unfortunately the last time I backed it up as almost two months ago so some posts were lost. I hit google cache and recreated some of the more important ones. If anything is missing please let me know.

Since for the most part I was starting from scratch, I figured I'd give Typo a try as well. I've been meaning to redesign everything and Typo isn't half bad out of the box. The import from wordpress to typo was pretty painless. I also had to make some changes to the routes.rb file in order to make old urls work. Overall I'm really digging Typo and of course love Ruby on Rails. ;)

Ethernet Cable Tester & digg.com

Posted by Tony Buser Wed, 25 May 2005 20:58:23 GMT

Instructions on how to build an RJ45 cable tester. It uses dip switches to let you check crossover cables as well as finding crossed wires.

Normally I would have just posted this to my delicious links page, but I wanted to try the cross-posting feature of digg.com. Digg is sort of like a community moderated slashdot. It has all kinds of nifty buzzwordy features and things that I'll post more about later after I soak it all in.

If you're looking for the link on how to make the cable tester, click the read more link below. Apparently that's how digg posts it. Not sure I like that. As a matter of fact, I don't like that. :)

SOS: Students for an Orwellian Society

SOS: Students for an Orwellian Society - I would say its a lot of funny satire, except for the fact that it's doubleplus ungood scary truespeak.

After playing with several photo album programs over the years, I finally gave Flickr a try. I must say, it's pretty damn sweet. It's amazing how easy it is to use. The ability to assign tags to easily search for pictures is handy. They also have a graphical "Organizr" that lets you drag images into albums (uses flash). It kind of sucks that with free accounts you can only upload 10 megs a month (there's no download limit) so you have to resize everything or else you'll use up all your bandwidth pretty fast. It's only like $3.50 a month for 1 gig and the ability to store and retrieve your high res originals. There's many other handy tools and features, such as a "Blog This" button that lets you post a picture you your blog right from your Flickr page (which is how I did this post). Take a look at my photo album so far.

Texas Hold Em Video Poker Spam Count

Posted by Tony Buser Wed, 01 Dec 2004 21:01:05 GMT

The texas hold em, video poker spammer is still hitting my site. I started blocking his IP addresses but they just kept comming. Even though NONE of his spam gets seen by anyone but me because I have comment moderation on. I've been quietly ignoring them and letting the messages pile up in my moderation queue... He's got quite the collection of zombie spam bots. Here's the score:

792 blog spam attempts 121 distinct ip addresses 0 spam actually viewable on my website

I got sick of it, so I tried changing the filename for the post script to throw a wrench in his automated spam bot. I wonder how long that will protect me.

Blog Spam Attack

Posted by Tony Buser Mon, 01 Nov 2004 22:53:21 GMT

I've gotten hit by a particularly nasty blog spam bot over the past two days. It started with just a few a day last week or so and now in the last two days I've had over 110. This is the first big one I've gotten since I switched to WordPress. It's really odd considering I have comment moderation on, so their spam never gets posted yet they keep on hitting me. This particular spammer is pretty well connected. He's going through approximately 26 different IP addresses. (see below) All of which are now added to my firewall blacklist. Spammer, if you can still read this; give it up. I'm the only one seeing it and I don't particularly care for online poker.

Bloglet Updates Are Back

Posted by Tony Buser Fri, 27 Aug 2004 15:27:54 GMT

I started getting Bloglet updates again for another website I subscribe to. I had thought it wasn't working because of something with WordPress's RSS feed and I never got a reply to an email to bloglet asking for help. Turns out Bloglet doesn't like a /feed/ url, you have to set it to /wp-rss.php to make it work. Ah well, welcome back if you happen to have gotten this from a Bloglet update. :)
